This blog follows the progress of the LRO mission through Integration and Testing at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center and launch site processing at KSC\Astrotech. Its purpose is to enable communication to the entire LRO Team about the status of ongoing activities.

LRO was launched June 18th, 2009 at 5:32pm EDT from KSC. This BLOG will follow the progress of the mission as LRO travels to the Moon and establishes orbit around it.

This BLOG will be periodically updated during LRO's early mission but as the nominal mission unfolds the official NASA LRO website and the LRO Science Instrument's own websites will evolve into a more interesting sources of LRO science results as postings appear there first and LRO engineering and operations (source of this site) will become increasingly routine.

Post-Environmental Testing.

We are currently running the CRaTER functional test. This is the first of our post-environmental CPT tests. CPT testing will be performed through the first full week in January. We will run the LROC functional after the completion of the CRaTER testing today.

The next four days will be dedicated to propulsion testing.

LRO in the Cleanroom.

We removed the orbiter from the Thermal Vac Chamber on Monday 12/22 and got it back into the cleanroom.

All motion is cyclic. It circulates to the limits of its possibilities and then returns to its starting point.

I want to wish all of you the happiest of holidays, you all deserve this and much more! It was four years ago today that our Instruments were selected and we quite literally shown the starting gate as the MS Project stopwatch clicked to life. It has been a tough run with steep hills and sometimes confusing terrain but the LRO Team has become legendary for our endurance and perseverance. And now the final hilltop is in sight! Catch your breath this holiday season and together we'll press to the finish this spring.

And in keeping with our BLOG traditions I offer you these quotes that caught my fancy

And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled 'till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more. ~Dr. Seuss

Christmas - that magic blanket that wraps itself about us, that something so intangible that it is like a fragrance. It may weave a spell of nostalgia. Christmas may be a day of feasting, or of prayer, but always it will be a day of remembrance - a day in which we think of everything we have ever loved. ~Augusta E. Rundel

Santa is very jolly because he knows where all the bad girls live. ~Dennis Miller

People can't concentrate properly on blowing other people to pieces if their minds are poisoned by thoughts suitable to the twenty-fifth of December. ~Ogden Nash

Still need to install aft cone and bag spacecraft.

Thermal Test Enclosure Out of the chamber.

The mechanical team has removed the thermal test enclosure out of the chamber. We are getting ready to stow the HGAS boom.
