This blog follows the progress of the LRO mission through Integration and Testing at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center and launch site processing at KSC\Astrotech. Its purpose is to enable communication to the entire LRO Team about the status of ongoing activities.

LRO was launched June 18th, 2009 at 5:32pm EDT from KSC. This BLOG will follow the progress of the mission as LRO travels to the Moon and establishes orbit around it.

This BLOG will be periodically updated during LRO's early mission but as the nominal mission unfolds the official NASA LRO website and the LRO Science Instrument's own websites will evolve into a more interesting sources of LRO science results as postings appear there first and LRO engineering and operations (source of this site) will become increasingly routine.

Getting Ready for TVac: Sat 10/18

Status 10/18: Completed most of the blankets that need to be done before the test enclosure goes in. Completed calibration of the RF setup. Ran trending. Took a few WAC images. Continue to install and test heaters and instrumentation. Tomorrow we load FSW patch 4.3.2.1 and see if the data collision between LAMP and LROC stops.

Status 10/17: Another great day, the HGAS is deployed with the help of some skillful crane ops and a lot of careful planning. We continue to route cables, install GSE blankets, heaters and instrumentation. Tomorrow we power up.

Status 10/16: What a great day! Orbiter is in the chamber. Removed the adapter cone. Connected umbilical harness and HGAS GSE harness for tomorrow's activities. Connecting the omni RF cables.

Training Sessions for T-Vac


Next Tuesday at 10a-12 and again at 2-4p we'll conduct familiarization training for people involved in the test. If you are working the test (systems, subsystems, TCs, payloads) please attend one session. They convene in front of the SES. Joanne, Charles, and Dave will cover things like, where folks sit, who operates the chamber, and some basics about how to conduct yourself while supporting. I'll probably talk a bit too, pretty unavoidable...

Getting Ready for TVac: Tues 10/14

Status 10/14: Rotated SC -Y down. Installed heaters and TC to HGAS hat coupler. Reinstalled hat coupler. Installed HGAS lift bar. Routed RF & LR cables down boom. Installed LR shower head. Installed MRF short cable & closed blanket. Removed thermal test enclosure from chamber. Installed GSE cables in chamber. Installed bottom sled bracket to orbiter. Installed GDS SW version 1.10a. Blanketed CSS harness.

Status 10/13: Removed EGSE cables. Configured test connector panel and covered it. Installed SAS Gimbal bracket and secured cables. Opened the SES chamber door. Removed blankets and RF cables.
