This blog follows the progress of the LRO mission through Integration and Testing at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center and launch site processing at KSC\Astrotech. Its purpose is to enable communication to the entire LRO Team about the status of ongoing activities.

LRO was launched June 18th, 2009 at 5:32pm EDT from KSC. This BLOG will follow the progress of the mission as LRO travels to the Moon and establishes orbit around it.

This BLOG will be periodically updated during LRO's early mission but as the nominal mission unfolds the official NASA LRO website and the LRO Science Instrument's own websites will evolve into a more interesting sources of LRO science results as postings appear there first and LRO engineering and operations (source of this site) will become increasingly routine.

System Stress Test running

We started the System Stress Test around 7:00PM. We expect it to be complete around 11:00PM. It will be immediately followed by Trending. We expect to run the Safing Tests beginning around midnight. This means that we are around 3 hours behind the original schedule. Not bad.

Command Authentication running

we completed the CDH FSW functional and are running the command authentication test. We expect to be ready to start the System Stress Test before 7:00PM.

C&DH FSW Functional.

We are about 40 minutes away from the end of the C&DH FSW Functional. At about 4:30p, we should be getting ready to start the Command Authentication Functional from the MOC. We expect that to take about 3 hours. FSW Stress test should start around 7:30pm.

GN&C FSW Functional Complete!

It actually took 3 hours this time ;-). Bruce says all went well. No new PRs, just had a reoccurance of PRB 0730. We are getting ready to run the C&DH FSW functional.

orbiter functional complete

We have completed the Orbiter Functional including the power-down sequence. We are powering back up for the following activities:

1. GNC FSW functional (about 4 hours, maybe 8AM-Noon)
2. CDH FSW functional (about 4 hours, maybe Noon-4PM)
3. Command Authentication (about 3 hours, maybe 4PM-7PM)
4. System Stress Test (about 4 hours, maybe 7PM-11PM)
5. Orbiter Trending (about 1 hour, maybe 11PM-Midnight)

Wow, what a busy Saturday.

lro_nom_20 started

lro_nom_20 (FSW checkout) started at 5:30AM (scheduled for 12:30AM), still 5 hours behind.

lro_nom_15 started

thanks to the efforts of Mike, Arlin, and Bob we are only 5 hours behind schedule. lro_nom_15 is S-band comm checks, scheduled for 11:30PM, and started at 4:30AM.

lro_nom_09 started

we have begun lro_nom_09 (LEND Instrument Checkout) at 1:21AM. Since it was originally scheduled for 8:47PM (yesterday) we are still 4-1/2 hours behind.

Orbital Function lro_nom_02 started

procedure lro_nom_02 (setup for ops simulation) has been started around 9:30PM this evening. This puts us about 4-1/2 hours behind.

At this rate, we will finish Orbital Functional around 6:30AM. I am crossing all of my fingers and several toes.

Whenever we finish the Orbital Functional, we will proceed (out of order) to:

1. GNC FSW functional
2. C&DH FSW functional
3. Command Authentication

which should take us into Saturday afternoon.

Phil.

Starting LOI

We are getting ready for the LOI burn. We're about 5hours off. At this pace, we will finish the orbiter functional sometime between 7a-9a Saturday morning.

Order Change Up.

We are still about 4 hours behind the original schedule. We are going to change the order a bit. After the Orbiter Functional, we will run the GN&C FSW functional, then the C&DH FSW functional, and then the Command Authentication Functional.

Slow Going.

We're about 4 hours behind right now. Some of the procs were modified for t-vac and now we had to modify them back for ambient conditions. Currently, we're in sep-01.

Orbiter Functional Started.

Martin is here and we are starting the orbiter functional.
