This blog follows the progress of the LRO mission through Integration and Testing at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center and launch site processing at KSC\Astrotech. Its purpose is to enable communication to the entire LRO Team about the status of ongoing activities.
LRO was launched June 18th, 2009 at 5:32pm EDT from KSC. This BLOG will follow the progress of the mission as LRO travels to the Moon and establishes orbit around it.
This BLOG will be periodically updated during LRO's early mission but as the nominal mission unfolds the official NASA LRO website and the LRO Science Instrument's own websites will evolve into a more interesting sources of LRO science results as postings appear there first and LRO engineering and operations (source of this site) will become increasingly routine.

LRO Progress
Today we completed the LEND Functional with the radioactive source. Yesterday the modifications to the thermistor circuit were successfully completed to eliminate the 5 Hz interference problem. Kudos to the electrical and thermal blanket team for developing and implementing an optimal solution to this small but significant problem. The testing today showed LEND is healthy and further confirmed the 5 HZ noise is gone. The LAMP Functional was also completed after the installation of the LAMP vacuum pumping system. LAMP too is flight ready. Tomorrow flight procs will be run and checked out by the MOC at GSFC on the Orbiter here at Astrotech. The MOT is pressing hard toward FORR and tomorrows work will us bring near completion of flight proc checkouts.

News for 2-18-09
Completed Orbiter Functional late last night. Everything went exceptionally well. Today we are supporting MOC procedure checkout. We are all giddy with anticipation for the Payload Integrated Functional later tonight.

LRO runs the Orbiter Functional Test at KSC 0n 2/17/2009
Preprations for the Orbiter Functional Test began at 7:00 AM today 2/17/2009. As of 4:30 PM, 2/17/2009, we have completed almost 9 hours of the test and are on track to complete the Functional just after midnight tonight.

LRO Status 2/16/2009
The Orbiter was configured for the Orbiter Functional Test scheduled for tomorrow beginning at 7am. We will shortly fire the SAS NEAs, perform the HGAS Pop&Catch, walk HGAS down and reinstall the HGA Hat-Coupler, and configure the GDS. This will complete the preparations for tomorrow.

LRO Status 2/15/2009

The Launch Day Aliveness Test was successfully run 2nd shift yesterday. 1st shift today is devoted to flight proc checkout from the MOC (in progress). 2nd shift today we will unfold the solar array, connect it to the Orbiter via a test cable, verify the telemetry, and do an illumination test of the solar array. Photo above is the LRO Control Room in Astrotech Building 1. Orbiter is actually in Building 2.
