This blog follows the progress of the LRO mission through Integration and Testing at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center and launch site processing at KSC\Astrotech. Its purpose is to enable communication to the entire LRO Team about the status of ongoing activities.

LRO was launched June 18th, 2009 at 5:32pm EDT from KSC. This BLOG will follow the progress of the mission as LRO travels to the Moon and establishes orbit around it.

This BLOG will be periodically updated during LRO's early mission but as the nominal mission unfolds the official NASA LRO website and the LRO Science Instrument's own websites will evolve into a more interesting sources of LRO science results as postings appear there first and LRO engineering and operations (source of this site) will become increasingly routine.

Apollo 17 Astronaut Harrison Schmitt in our MOC!



Today Dr. Harrison Schmitt, the Apollo 17 Astronaut-Scientist, gave an interview to Fox News in preparation for the 40th anniversary of the Apollo lunar landing, from inside the LRO MOC. He also toured the MOC, learned more about LRO, and was asked to sign anything that was not nailed down!

Shuttle Homecoming.



The shuttle was ferried back the KSC yesterday and flew up the Cocoa Beach shoreline.

Data Interleave Test Successfully Completed.

Today we ran a test to verify that we could receive the data interleaved into the booster and the Centaur second stage telemetry stream. LRO gets this data through the vehicle while on the ground until separation.

IST Completed!

The Integrated System Test with the orbiter was successfully completed this morning. Thanks to everyone who got up before the crack of dawn to help support the test. Take a nap!

Tomorrow we will run a data interleave test to verify LRO data is properly passed through the vehicle during the vehicle data rate switch over from booster data format to Centaur data format.

IST Monday 6/1 @5am.

Still on track for a 5am start of the Integrated System Test. This will be the last power up of the spacecraft before launch day.

Test support personnel, be console at 5am.
